There will be no mercy!
―Major Chip Hazard

Major Chip Hazard is an animatronic toy, and the lead antagonist of Small Soldiers.

Chip is the platoon leader of the Commando Elite, and a caricature of a Vietnam-era American army commando: ruthless, authoritative, and determined to win by any means necessary. Leading with an iron fist, his troops are loyal to the point of self-sacrifice, and laser-focused on hunting down his sworn enemy and leader of the Gorgonites, Archer.

Chip Hazard in his box

Chip Hazard and the rest of the Commando Elite were designed by Larry Benson who was toy creator of company called Heartland Play Systems, which was later bought out by Globotech Industries. His business partner's name was Irwin Wayfair who was the designer of the Gorgonites.

In his box, Chip came with his trademark pistol and an assault rifle and could be activated by the command "Ten-Hut!"

During the night Chip broke out of his box and set up his first directive to activate the rest of his troops to general quarters within the toy store by the same general orders that activated him which was: "Commandos, Ten-hut!".

Then from there Chip and his troops set out on the search and mission to destroy the Gorgonites they saw.

In which this case they were ultimately successful at destroying Troglokhan.

Next, when Link Static later the next morning noticed Archer being helped by a human named Alan Abernathy, Chip set up the objective to try and destroy Archer. For this assault, they fired one Commando named Brick Bazooka at Alan's bike so he could destroy Archer within Alan's backpack. In this situation, the assault was a mission failure because Brick Bazooka got his leg caught in the bike chain in which he was thrown off the bike but later then reassembled. As the Commandos' next plan, they secretly sneaked into Alan's house in which he was keeping Archer. While Alan was asleep, the Commandos trapped Archer and then stringing him up and started lowering him into the waste disposal unit in the sink. Fortunately, Alan heard the noises and rescued Archer. But while trying to do so, he was attacked by one Commando named Nick Nitro. After Alan was cut by Nitro's saw blade, he then shoved Nitro into the waste disposal unit. This tore up Nitro's legs pretty badly. By then the rest of the Commandos had already fled including Chip.

After the escape from Alan, the Commandos then moved into the garage of Alan's next door neighbor's house where Christy Fimple lived and began work on new war machinery. Nick Nitro, managed to get back to the Commando Elite, but died shortly after. After spiking Marion Fimple's drink with sleeping pills (knocking out her and Phil Fimple), and tying up Timmy, Chip Hazard took Nick's microchip and ultimately installed it into the Gwendy Dolls of Christy Fimple. Then from there, the Gwendy dolls captured Christy and made her a hostage so the Commandos could make their proposal to Alan to surrender the Gorgonites. When Alan came to the house of Christy he then left a decoy of the Gorgonites inside a box. While the Commandos went to go destroy the box, Alan and Archer sneaked into the back of Christy's house. The Commandos were ultimately unaware they had been given a decoy target.

To vanquish the suspected Gorgonites that were in the box, they stuck a dynamite stick in the box to blow it sky high. Then after the explosion when the Commandos noticed the box was a decoy they moved back to their original positions. When the Commandos got back to their positions, they noticed Alan and Christy (their hostage) was escaping. When Alan and Christy got outside, the Commandos followed them in their new war vehicles by blowing the garage door off and chasing the both them down the street on Christy's moped. The Commandos were in hot pursuit until Christy's moped jump over the a small river. When the Commandos tried to jump the river, they crashed into a huge explosion. Alan and Christy thought all the Commandos were dead, but they ultimately did not notice Chip had survived. Then from there, Chip found a Commando toy store army that was being shipped back into a Heartland Playsystems truck and being shipped back to the company for being defective. He then threatened the driver Joe with a knife and made him drive the truck back to the Abernathy's house. There he staged one last assault on the Gorgonites and their human allies.

Chip surveyed the battle in a toy jeep, giving out orders through a loud speaker to his fellow Commandos. He then surveyed the battle further and attacked the humans by flying his makeshift helicopter. He then saw Alan climbing a atop a transformer pole who was attempting to help create a electromagnetic pulse (EMP) to stop the Commando threat once and for all. Chip attacked him, making Alan drop the wrench he was using to join the transformers together and complete the electrical circuit. However his helicopter was damaged when Trogolokhan fired at him with one of the Commandos' own weapons. Chip was forced to eject and land on the transformer pole whilst the helicopter crashed into Phil Fimple's giant satellite dish.

Chip Hazard's final moments; "There will be no mercyyyy..."

Chip then stabbed Alan's fingers with a knife, causing the boy to cling for his life to the pole, but Archer intervened and the two leaders engaged in a fight. Chip told Archer the whole fight was pointless as he and all the other Gorgonites were programmed to lose. Chip then defeated Archer and kicked him to ground below and declares victory is theirs, but Alan (who was still clinging to the transformer pole) in a fury, grabbed Chip and jammed him in between the transformers, completing the electrical circuit (whilst also frying Chip's circuits), causing the transformers to explode and send out the EMP.

While the blast is taking place, Chip fries in agony. The EMP blast neutralized the X-1000 micro-processing chips in all of the Commandos, killing them.

Personality

Are you scared? We're all scared. You'd have to be crazy not to be scared!
―Chip Hazard to the captured Christy Fimple

The typical image of the battle-hardened soldier Chip was very bitter, cruel, sadistic and brutish. He also showed a deep capacity for honor and was unimaginably devoted to destroying the Gorgonites. He did show emotion on one occasion when Nick Nitro died and he dictated that "his battery had run out, but his memory would keep going and going and going" and that his death would be avenged.

He was also extremely arrogant and very narcissistic, taking immense pride in his very own complete precise main primary militaristic status and in his abilities. Because of his arrogance and narcissistic evil, he fails to see other threats and he mostly gets careless which lead to his downfall. He was highly very intelligent and shown to be a brilliant tactician, with an analytical mind and a even weaponry intellect.

He could be insensitive and emotionless, shown when he frequently contradicted and criticized his own troops, but this is possibly in order to toughen them up. He displays incredible physical attributes and has an uncanny level of durability and endurance, as he survives being blown up, crushed and the destruction of his custom-built helicopter.

He was a natural leader and an unerringly capable commander, taking charge in the final battle for the Gorgonites. He was also a psychotic sociopath, extremely self-centered and also seen to be a very complete dry psychopath.

Video Games

Small Soldiers (PS1)

Chip Hazard is the main antagonist in all the video games. He is shown in some of the levels in the one-player mode, also he is the final foe that Archer has to defeat in the final level and battle. He is also a playable character in the PlayStation video game in the two-player mode where he can battle against Archer and try to win a battle by killing his foe 5 times, or he can try to win by collecting 3 flags and bringing them to his flag-holder and he can also summon one of his Commando weaponry, Bipod, Mortar and Sentry to assist him in battle and protect him from his foes, if he opens up a spinning diamond that he has stood underneath, though remember he can only summon one of his allies at a time.

If he tries to summon two of them, the allies already summoned will then disappear. If Chip Hazard wins in the frag-mode or flag-mode he is also shown in the victory screen, with them saying "Victory Chip Hazard". Then you can choose to quit the two-player game, that either Archer or Chip Hazard has just won or replay it and start over that same two-player, to see who else might win, or lose. Whoever loses in the two-player mode after someone else has won, then the loser is never shown on the victory-screen only the winner, because they they only want to to show who wins and not who loses.

Small Soldiers: Squad Commander

Unlike his movie counterpart, this game's Chip Hazard does not seem to mind targeting humans (in the movie, he classified humans as civilians and only attacked those he perceived as Gorgonite allies), and fights using a pistol. In terms of gameplay, he is most well-rounded of the Commandos, with all of his statistics being consistently average, though this means none of his statistics are the highest in the team. In fact, his power, health and range are all the lowest ranked in the squad.
