Heartland Play Systems, formerly Heartland Toy Company, was once owned by family businessman Montgomery Heart, before its acquisition by business conglomerate Globotech Industries.
After the small toy manufacturers' recent success with the Belch Brigade line, Globotech CEO Gil Mars bought out the company and fired all but its creative team: Irwin Wayfair and Larry Benson. The pair were already designing their own takes on the company's next toy line when the acquisition occurred, and the company's new owner took an immediate and personal interest in what they were designing.
Small Soldiers (film)[]
The company was bought by Globotech. Its CEO Gil Mars fired all the other employees but kept Irwin and Larry after their impressive sales of a toy line known as The Belch Brigade. He pays them a visit to see their newest projects, which involve the creation of intelligent, interactive toys. Irwin introduces the creatures, the Gorgonites, while Larry introduces the Commando Elite, the soldiers.
Gil supports Larry's concept more, but complains when he observes a promotional advert for the toys, complaining that the toys cannot actually do what they can do in the advert. That night, Larry searches through GloboTech's online hardware database and decides to use an intelligent A.I. munitions computer chip. the X-1000, to power the toys, which are put into production.
An impatient Mars forgoes any safety testing, which causes many problems throughout the film.
At the end, Mars decides not to sell the Commando Elite to children anymore and will instead use them for military purposes by sending them to fight rebels in South America. Mars is disappointed that the toys would never be a big hit in the stores, saying that the battle from the night before "would've made a hell of a commercial."
Trivia[]
