―Blurb[1]

Small Soldiers: Top Secret Dossier: From the Files of Irwin Wayfair is an in-universe collection of documents, messages, and advertisements that expand on the story of Small soldiers.
US Hardcover ISBN: 0-44-841879-7
UK Softback ISBN: 0-14-130242-9

While the conceit of this book is that it is "Irwin Wayfair's secret files", it is unclear how he could have had access to Monty Heart's pink slip, or the cheques given to the "incident" survivors by Gil Mars. Aside from those instances, the book is generally quite good at having all its content either directed toward or reasonably found by Irwin.

Contents[]

The book contains mini profiles of the Gorgonites and the Commando Elite, from the design documents of Irwin Wayfair and Larry Benson respectively, which have been included on the character pages of this wiki. These entries give the reader insight into the in-universe lore of the Small Soldiers brand, describing the Gorgonites' homeworlds and the Commandos' military skills beyond the toys they were turned into. The book goes on to give a brief description of what Gorgon actually is, and includes plenty of notes alluding to the rivalry between the competing toy designers.

Trivia[]

  • Concept art is shown for every member of the Gorgonites, but only three of the Commandos; Chip Hazard, Nick Nitro, and Link Static. More prominently shown are the concepts for the Commandos' makeshift vehicles, including six different designs in total.[1]
  • The book makes a point of including Troglokhan in the character bios, as that was how he was originally designed. The very end of the book has a special entry for "Freakenstein", with Irwin stating how proud he was of the Gorgonites for creating "a whole new being".[1]
  • The final page of the book is a postcard sent from the Gorgonites to Irwin, thanking him for all he's done. How the toys were capable of buying and posting the card, knowing Irwin's address, or even why they would contact him specifically is unclear.[1]
  • The pro-Commando marketing describes the Land of Gorgon as "a place of evil experimentations and unspeakable horrors", reminiscent of H.G. Wells' The Island of Dr. Moreau.[citation needed]
